Writing in the Real World / Solving a Problem Read Appendix B, “Solving Problems.” PROBLEM: Your friend / child / relative has just turned sixteen and is planning to drop out of high school. He has always done poorly, and if he drops out, he can increase his hours at the restaurant where he works. You think this is a terrible idea for many reasons. ASSIGNMENT: In a group or on your own, come up with various reasons in support of your decision. Consider, too, your friend’s /child’s / relative’s possible objections to your argument and account for those. Then, write an argument paragraph or essay to persuade him to complete high school.
